Perpetrator Undated photograph of Van Rootselaar Jesse Van Rootselaar (August 4, 2007 – February 10, 2026), [ 1 ] [ 2 ] also known as Jesse Strang , [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] was identified as the suspected shooter by RCMP deputy commissioner Dwayne McDonald, [ 6 ] after initially being described by the RCMP as "a female in a dress with brown hair". [ 7 ] [ 8 ] McDonald stated that Van Rootselaar was a trans woman [ 6 ] [ 9 ]
